It is a $5 million competition challenging teams from around the world to develop and demonstrate how humans can collaborate with powerful cognitive technologies to tackle some of the world\u2019s grand challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Every year leading up to TED2020, teams will go head-to-head at World of Watson, IBM\u2019s annual conference, competing for interim prizes and the opportunity to advance to the next year\u2019s competition.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The three finalist teams will take the TED stage in 2020 to deliver jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring TED Talks demonstrating what they have achieved.<\/p>\n<p>Ideas will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges for technical validity and ultimately, the TED and XPRIZE communities will choose the winner based on the audacity of their mission and the awe-inspiring nature of the teams\u2019 TED Talks in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>IBM believes this competition can accelerate the creation of landmark breakthroughs that deliver new, positive impacts to peoples\u2019 lives, and the transformation of industries and professions.<\/p>\n<p>We believe that cognitive technologies like Watson represent an entirely new era of computing, and that we are forging a new partnership between humans and technology that will enable us to address many of humanity\u2019s most significant challenges &#8212; from climate change, to education, to healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>Typical of all XPRIZE competitions, the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE will crowdsource solutions from some of the most brilliant thinkers and entrepreneurs around the world, creating true exponential impact.<\/p>\n<p>Complete rules and guidelines will be made available in May.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The IBM Watson AI XPRIZE, a Cognitive Computing Competition, was announced on the TED Stage on Feb 17, 2016.
